A286 Stainless Steel in AMS 5737 Specification, per SAE International:
“This specification covers a corrosion and heat resistant steel in the form of bars, wire, forgings, mechanical tubing, and stock for forging or heading.
These products have been used typically for parts, such as turbine rotors, shafts, blades, vanes, dowels, flanges, and fittings, requiring moderate strength up to 1300 degrees F (704 degrees C) and oxidation resistance up to 1500 degrees F (816 degrees C), but usage is not limited to such applications.”
Corrosion and heat resistant stainless steel. Solution and precipitation heat-treated.
What is Stainless Steel AMS 5737?
AMS 5737, a subtype specification of stainless steel A286, is best known for its precipitation-hardenable characteristics, which means it offers exceptional strength at elevated temperatures along with all-important corrosion resistance. Our experience is that despite its formidable hardness, the stainless steel spec AMS 5737 alloy demonstrates excellent formability and cold-working capabilities, thereby enhancing its creep strength.
Advantages of High Temperature, Corrosion Resistant Stainless Steel AMS 5737
These advantageous properties of AMS 5737 render it indispensable in jet engines, superchargers, and industrial gas turbines. Our aerospace and automotive clients like to use it for critical components like rotors, shafts, and blades. Additionally, we see it used a lot in high-temperature applications, like jet engine afterburners, tanks and tank engines (superchargers), piping, pumps, and heat exchangers.
